US MBON All-Hands Meeting
The US MBON All-Hands Meeting brings the national network’s teams, working groups and partners together at The Edge at USF in St. Petersburg, Florida, with hybrid participation.
Goals
- Reach agreement on key messages about MBON national goals and the MBON strategic framework, share updates on data management (helpdesk and product highlights; data to support fisheries), and consider future planning.
- Strengthen links among US MBON teams and partners, and the connectivity across efforts.
- Encourage common activities and outputs: technology applications, data sharing, product development and stories that show the network’s value.
Day 1 (Wed 14 Oct): MBON team-lead updates (one speaker per project and working group); the MarineGEO strategy and MBON partnership; MoveBON; the Ocean Biodiversity Impact Initiative and biodiversity KPIs; global engagement (AIR Centre, WCMB, GOOS, GEO); national goals and strategic framing; Sanctuary Watch; and the Communications working group, including this website.
Day 2 (Thu 15 Oct): MBON data contributions to support fisheries, with OBIS and GBIF capabilities shown on a species of interest; linking the Animal Telemetry Network and MBON to inform conservation and fisheries management; afternoon field trip to Egmont Key.
Day 3 (Fri 16 Oct): the IOOS Marine Life Map; remote sensing and seascapes applications (NASA program update, PACE, animal tracking, dashboards, eDNA and plankton imaging, foundation models); eDNA in MBON (FAIR eDNA data tools, portals, a cross-node pilot of eDNA-based EBVs); and MBON business: next steps on national goals, species distribution modeling, and a special issue.

US MBON
The U.S. partnership integrating biology and ecosystem surveys with remote sensing and molecular (eDNA) methods across regional MBONs.
Learn moreIndicators
Synthesizing raw observations into Essential Biodiversity Variables and Essential Ocean Variables for policy-relevant reporting.
Learn moreeDNA
Developing standardized environmental DNA protocols and pipelines for marine biodiversity assessment across MBON nodes.
Learn moreRemote Sensing & Seascapes
Advancing satellite remote sensing and dynamic seascape products to map and monitor marine biodiversity and its drivers across the MBON network.

BioTrack
Mapping marine biodiversity hotspots by integrating satellite and acoustic animal tracking with remotely sensed environmental data.
Learn moreOcean Biodiversity TechSurge
A meeting of the MTS Ocean Enterprise Initiative, IOOS, MBON and NOPP on ocean biodiversity information and technology. Its outcomes led to a report and a Marine Technology Society Journal paper.
