Linking marine biodiversity observations to ecosystem service indicators for integrated ocean assessment.
Eco-Indicators focuses on the next step beyond species occurrence: translating biodiversity observations into ecosystem function and service metrics. This working group develops composite indices that integrate physical, chemical, and biological observations to characterize ecosystem state and resilience.
The group works closely with NOAA’s Integrated Ecosystem Assessment program and GOOS’s Biology and Ecosystems Panel (BioEco) to align MBON-derived metrics with international reporting frameworks.
Indicators & Data Management
Raw observations become decision-relevant information through synthesis into Essential Ocean Variables, open data pipelines, and indicators that managers and policymakers can act on.
